Mespilus germanica, or Medlar, is an archeophyte that is extinct in the wild but remains cultivated for ornamental purposes. This deciduous shrub belongs to the Rosaceae family and blooms with white flowers between May and June. The spherical fruit measures 12 to 15 millimeters in the wild, while cultivated varieties can reach 25 to 70 millimeters. Medlar has been cultivated in Europe and southwest Asia, with its solitary fruit standing out prominently, much like its conspicuous flowers.
