Washingtonia, a genus of fan palms native to the southwestern U.S. and north-western Mexico, includes two main species: Washingtonia robusta and Washingtonia filifera. These palms have thick trunks up to 18 meters tall and large fan-shaped leaves up to 4 meters wide. They produce small white flowers in clusters and can live for centuries in hot, dry climates. Slow-growing and drought-tolerant, their impressive height and tropical look make them popular for urban landscaping.
